 Vocal Music

As elementary vocal music teachers, it is our job to guide our students in developing a working knowledge of musical concepts and skills. In doing this, we must create a climate in which each child feels free to make and enjoy music. Students benefit from music because it develops the whole person. One of our goals as music teachers is to instill a love of music in our students so they can enjoy life by listening to or participating in music experiences. In a recent survey reported by Paul Harvey, teenagers were asked the main reason they were not involved in drugs. The top three responses were: 1) involvment in music; 2) friends and family influence; and 3) involvement in physical education.

Our students will be involved in many musical activities throughout their years at Wilder. Students will learn to sing, dance, create music, and play a variety of musical instruments in their regular music class. Each grade level performs a program every year. Students can perform at other times during the year at the all-school talent show called T.O.P.S. and in choir performances.

This year, our music program has added two before school programs. Band is offered for fourth and fifth grade students and is hosted at Moody Elementary on Tuesday mornings. Violin Club meets on Thursday mornings at Wilder and is open to third, fourth and fifth grade students.
