Fifth graders will encounter a stimulating and challenging curriculum. Our study of American history from European explorers through post Revolutionary War integrates our social studies, reading, and writing curricular areas. Our science curriculum focuses on electricity, astronomy, and a study of the human body. Problem solving is emphasized in math along with computation in whole numbers, decimals, and fractions. Units in geometry, measurement, and graphing make for a busy year. Fifth grade is a transitional year, a bridge between elementary and middle school. Students need to work hard and always do their very best. It is important for students to become more independent in their academic work/study habits and their ability to solve personal problems, so they will be ready to meet the new challenges that await them in middle school. Scroll down to the bottom of this page to see some pictures of activities that fifth graders do.
