K-12 Philosophical Assumptions
Social Studies is a integrated study that prepares students to critically analyze and make decisions regarding themselves and their communities, nation, and rapidly changing world. The Littleton Public Schools social studies curriculum aligns with state and national standards that include the study of history, geography, economics, and civics. This comprehensive curriculum fosters inquiry and experiences that provide:
• an understanding of the United States and the world through the study of history, geography, economics, cultural and intellectual traditions, and political and social institutions;
• historical perspectives on the human experience resulting in individual, community and global identities;
• the skills necessary to acquire, analyze, evaluate and communicate current and historical information;
• the knowledge and skills necessary to be informed, responsible citizens and leaders;
• comprehension of global interdependence and strategies for sustainable development.
